Final Conference /// We can work it out! A Vision for More Sustainable Chemistry in the Leather Supply Chains

The final online-conference took place on November 16, 2022, co-hosted by the h_da team and Schader Foundation. After an introduction, Ioannis Dosis (Federal Environment Agency – UBA) was setting the scene by outlining current EU developments related to Sustainable Products Policies, which focus on chemical substances in products and materials such as leather.

Next, conference participants learned about key findings and results as well as specific outputs (see the sections below) of the five-year transformative research project. Finally, an outlook announced the release of “Guiding principles for more sustainable leather chemistry”, translating the 5 year project experience into 15 concrete targets.

The conference also featured inputs from Arnaud Backbier (Royal Smit & Zoon), Prof. Dr. Dirk Bunke (Öko-Institut), Dr. Alex Föller (TEGEWA), Andreas Meyer (German Leather Federation – VDL) and Ekkehard Werner (HELLER-Leder). All slides and recordings of the presentations from the h_da team are available on our website.
