Arriving by public transport or taxi
You can reach the university’s central campus on Schöfferstraße by public transport with bus lines H and F as well as tram lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 9. The bus stop for Bus H is “Hochschule”. If you take Bus F or the tram, please disembark at “Berliner Allee”.
If you are arriving by taxi, please tell the driver “Schöfferstraße 3”, where you will find University Tower (Building C10) in the middle of the campus.
Arriving by bike
Like in many other cities, there is Call a Bike in Darmstadt too, the bike-sharing system of Deutsche Bahn (German Rail), where you can hire a bike at a reasonable price.
All main transport hubs, such as Darmstadt Main Station (Hauptbahnhof), Luisenplatz (the main square in the city centre) and the university’s central campus, have bike-docking stations. In addition, there are numerous bike racks throughout the campus if you come with your own bike.
The best way to reach the university’s central campus by bike is via the following routes:
From the direction of Luisenplatz/City Centre:
Follow Rheinstraße for about one kilometre in the direction of Darmstadt Main Station (Hauptbahnhof ). After passing Hindenburgstraße, turn onto Albert-Schweitzer-Anlage. Continue until you come to Havelstraße. Turn right onto Havelstraße and continue for about 200 metres until you see the university’s central campus on the left-hand side in Schöfferstraße.
From the direction of Darmstadt Main Station (Hauptbahnhof):
Set off from Platz der Deutschen Einheit in front of Darmstadt Main Station in the direction of Berliner Allee. Cross Berliner Allee in the direction of Haardtring and turn left at the first side street, Spreestraße. Follow Spreestraße and turn right at the first side street, Havelstraße. Continuing along Havelstraße, you will find the university’s central campus to your right in Schöfferstraße.
Arriving by car
As there is only limited parking around the campus, we generally recommend coming by public transport, on foot or by bike!
Coming from Basel/Heidelberg/Frankfurt (A 5) or Cologne/Wiesbaden/Mannheim (A 67), leave the motorway at exit 26 in the direction of Darmstadt/Stadtmitte/Griesheim. Heading into the city, follow the B 26 to Rheinstraße. Turn right onto Berliner Allee in the direction of Heidelberg/Höchst i. Odw. After about 500 metres, turn left onto Holzhofallee, then left again onto Schöfferstraße, where the university’s central campus is located.
