Who owns what here? What can I license or patent? Do I have to choose between publishing and patenting? Innovations and inventions often arise from projects, theses or doctorates - and with them the question of how to protect them, use them (or have them used) and exploit them. Patent holders have the right to prohibit others from using their inventions or to allow them to do so in return for payment (licensing).
