Second degree programme

The following are considered second degree applications

  • an application for a Bachelor's or Diplom degree programme if you have already completed a university degree in Germany
  • an application for a Master's degree programme if you have already completed a Master's degree in Germany

The following do not count as second degree applications

  • an application for a Master's degree programme if a Master's degree programme has not yet been completed
  • an application for a Bachelor's degree programme with restricted admission if the first degree programme has not yet been completed at the time of application

Award procedure

In degree programmes with restricted admission (German), 3% of the study places are reserved for second degree applicants and are allocated according to a measurement number based on the final grade of the first degree and the application justification. You can find details on the calculation of the assessment number in Annex 1 of the Hessian University Admission Regulations (German). One second application is possible per allocation procedure.

  • (for outstanding first degree certificate:) Transcript of Records (ToR)
  • (only for degree programmes with restricted admission:) Reason for application (max. 1 A4 page)
