
Study financing opportunities
For many students, commencing their studies means having to look after, and finance, themselves for the first time. No tuition fees are charged at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, you will only need to pay the semester contribution.
There are a variety of ways available to finance a course of studies:

Advice on jobs and studying is offered by:
- The Students‘ Union,
- The Campus Office des AStA and
- The Jobcenter.
The Federal Training Assistance Act for Students (BAföG) provides financial support for students, in order for them to complete their studies as well as pay their living expenses. Half of students’ BAföG payments are generally in the form of a grant, whilst the other half is an interest-free loan. Detailed information is available from the Federal Ministry for Education and Research along with BaföG advice from the students’ union.
h_da offers consultation appointments for students regarding BAFöG. All the relevant information is available at AStA at AG Studienfinanzierung.
h_da does not presently offer the scholarship ‘Deutschlandstipendium’. Information on other available scholarships in Germany can be found on the following sites:
- myStipendium.de (german): search engine with over 3000 scholarship programmes,
- Stipendium Plus (Scholarship programmes offered by the 13 state-funded organisations for the promotion of gifted students.),
- the Aufstiegsstipendium (upgrading scholarship programmes for people with job experience).
- Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst e.V. (DAAD): Grants for international students offered by the German Academic Exchange Service.
- ArbeiterKind.de (german): Organisation for the promotion of higher education for non-academic children.
Services offered to students suffering financial difficulties
- The Evangelical Student Community in Darmstadt offers fincancial aid for international students in financial difficulties.
- An Application for financial support can be made to the ‘Förderverein für in Not geratene Studierende’ at the h_da (Association for the support of students in financial need).
- A portal at the Jobcenter currently lists jobs for seasonal workers.
- Tutoring teams from the Students’ Union will provide support in searching for a new part-time job. A video round-up on the topic of ‘looking for jobs’ is also available.
Loans for the graduation phase
For students who are no longer eligible for support under the BAföG and are in need, the Students' Association Darmstadt (Studierendenwerk Darmstadt) offers loans for the graduation phase (in German).
Final degree scholarships for international students
You are an international student from outside the EU, soon to graduate? In order for you to be able to concentrate on your thesis, the SSC offers a Scholarhip to bridge this period! International students from non-EU countries who will shortly receive, or recently did receive, admission for their Bachelor’s, Diploma or Master's thesis may apply. Please note the respective deadlines:
Bachelor students
Deadlines: All of the required documentation must be submitted by one of the following dates 15.2., 15.5., 15.8. und 15.11..
Amounts: €450/month for 3 months plus a €150 final instalment.
Criteria influencing selection include:
- Academic performance to date
- Quality of the assessments
- An applicant’s social circumstances.
A commission decides on the allocation of grants, whereby there is no legal right to receiving a grant.

Master's degree students
Deadlines: The documents must be submitted in full by March 31st for the summer semester and by September 30th for the winter semester.
Amounts: 450€/month for 6 months and 150€ final rate.
Criteria influencing selection include:
- Academic performance to date
- Quality of the assessments
- An applicant’s social circumstances.
A commission decides on the allocation of grants, whereby there is no legal right to receiving a grant.
