Admission criteria

Prerequisite to applying for a Bachelor’s or Diploma degree course is a university entrance qualification (HZB) that corresponds to the standards of German high school graduation exams. If this is not the case for the educational certificate you received overseas, you will first need to attend a preparatory college before you can apply to study a degree course.

If you wish to apply to study for a Master’s degree course at the h_da, you will first need to submit an academic degree that is comparable to a German Bachelor’s or Diploma degree. The university (possibly also the degree course itself) that you graduated from must be registered, and accredited, according to the country’s laws.

Furthermore, please note that specific admission requirements may pertain for certain degree courses. These are listed under ‘educational background’ at the profile of your chosen degree course

As the majority of degree courses at the h_da are taught in German, sufficient German language skills must also be documented for applications and admission.

A few degree courses are taught entirely in English. Certification of sufficient English language skills must be submitted in such cases. However, you may nonetheless be requested to submit evidence of sufficient German language skills. Even if your chosen degree course is taught exclusively in English, it is advisable, before your degree course commences, to have acquired German language skills up to at least B2 grade.

In the case of n.c. degree courses, 10 % of the places available are reserved for applicants from non-EU countries, who then compete amongst themselves, whereas applicants from EU countries participate in regular allocation procedures. These procedures are coordinated by ‘universitystart’.

Step 1

Firstly, register yourself with Hochschulstart. You will be given an application ID (BID) and authentication number (BAN), which you can view using the button ‘My Data’. Note down your BID and BAN, as these will be needed in the next step for your online application via uni-assist. You may find this Check list useful when applying.

Step 2

Submit your application via uni-assist. Please note the necessary documents you need to upload there (no postal submissions).

Step 3

If the results are positive, uni-assist automatically forwards your application to us electronically, enabling you to participate in the allocation process. You will probably be informed as to whether you are being offered a place as of the middle of August for winter semesters, and the middle of February for summer semesters.

Step 4

Once you receive an admittance to study, you should actively accept your degree course place via ‘Hochschulstart’. You will then be sent your certificate of acceptance, enabling you to apply for your enrolment.

Step 1
Apply online via the uni-assist portal. Note the necessary application documents that you need to upload there (no postal submissions). About 4 weeks after receipt of your application, uni-assist will inform you about the current processing status. If your application is formally correct, your data will be forwarded to the Hochschule Darmstadt.

Step 2
If your application is successful, you will receive a letter of admission from the Hochschule Darmstadt. This letter of admission contains a binding enrolment date and a list of documents that you must submit by e-mail in order to enrol.

Incomplete or incorrect documents will result in the cancellation of the notification of admission! The place originally allocated to you will then be allocated to someone else.
