Content

Anyone who aspires to a management position in the field of energy management needs a broad knowledge of this very multifaceted field of activity. The Master's programme in Energy Management (M. Sc.), which is unique in the German-speaking world due to its thematic breadth, imparts the knowledge and skills required for this. The 3- or 4-semester programme focuses primarily on topics such as operational energy management, pricing in energy markets or business valuations, innovative and sustainable business model development, pricing, risk management and information systems in the energy industry. Another special feature of the degree programme is the opportunity to take courses from other faculties related to energy economics, including courses from the RASUM Master's programme. These cooperations enable an interdisciplinary exchange with students from a wide range of disciplines. Ultimately, the Master's programme combines business, technology, IT and law into a practice-relevant mix. More in-depth information on the programme can be found on the website of the Faculty of Economics.

Perspective

The Master's degree opens up very good opportunities on the labour market, especially in management positions. For those interested in science, it offers the opportunity to deepen fields of study in an academic doctoral procedure and thus pursue an academic career in research and teaching. Fields of activity in managerial functions can be found in:

  • Project planning and management of renewable
  • energy generation
  • Expansion and control of energy networks
  • Procurement, trading and distribution of energy
  • risk management
  • Energy management in energy-intensive companies

After achieving a master's degree, it is possible to do a doctorate. The central contact point is the graduate school.

Structure

The degree programme is offered in a 3-semester as well as in two 4-semester variants (depending on previous education). The modules of the individual variants are shown in the overview. A detailed presentation of the study contents can be found in the module manual (German).

*Access

The admission requirement for the 3-semester Master's programme in Energy Management is a qualified Bachelor's or Diplom degree with at least an overall grade of 2.5 in the field of energy management with at least 210 CP. Students who have previously completed a degree in energy economics with 180 CP complete the Master's programme in the 4-semester variant with corresponding additional modules in energy economics and energy technology. However, upon proof of relevant professional activity in the energy industry (for at least one year), these students can also be admitted to the 3-semester Master's programme. Bachelor's and Diplom graduates with a qualified degree from the fields of industrial engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, business administration or other combined degree programmes comprising 180 CP can also take the 4-semester Master's programme in energy management. Missing subject knowledge is compensated for via the core modules. A detailed description of the admission requirements can be found in the Special Provisions of the Examination Regulations (German).
