Content
Digitisation contributes to the accumulation of knowledge in immense amounts of data, but often unstructured and widely scattered. Information Scientists bring this knowledge together and make it usable for business and society. The Bachelor's programme in Information Science at the h_da trains experts in the professional handling of data, information and knowledge. In doing so, they delve deeply and can handle information in complex data masses with confidence. They deal with the information contained in data, are able to structure, display and visualise it and analyse it automatically.
Perspective
Information Scientists accompany the digitalisation of economy and society. The career prospects are correspondingly broad. Graduates have good prospects in these institutions, among others:
- Companies in the IT, software and telecommunications sector
- Data processing industry
- Libraries, publishing houses and media institutions
- Information and technical documentation service providers.

Structure
In the first semesters, students learn, among other things, how information is extracted from data, then structured, stored, managed and prepared for human beings. The focus is also on the conception and design of information, methods and models of information science as well as human perception and cognition processes. In the fourth and fifth semesters, students take elective modules and set their own priorities. This is possible, for example, in the fields of information visualisation or data mining, or students can choose to study Library Science. The subsequent practical work phase is followed by the Bachelor's thesis. You can find a detailed presentation of the course contents in the module manual (German). The Information Science (B.Sc.) programme can also be studied in a dual system.
Access
Among other things, these school-leaving qualifications are regarded as admission requirements:
- General qualification for university entrance
- Subject-related higher education entrance qualification valid in Hessen
- Advanced technical college entrance qualification valid in Hessen.
It is not necessary to complete an internship before commencing studies. Applicants should have a good command of English.
