Disenrollment – ending your studies
Disenrollment marks the end of your studies at h_da. As a rule, disenrollment takes place when you have successfully completed your studies. However, there may also be other reasons for disenrollment. On this page, we have summarised what you need to consider when disenrolling and what steps you may need to take.
Legal basis
The enrolment statutes of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences build the legal basis for disenrollment. The English translation can be found under the following link under "Weitere Satzungen": h-da.de/hhg.
Possible applications
Disenrollment |
You can apply for disenrollment directly on my.h-da.de in the "Student Services" section. Please make sure that you no longer have any obligations towards h_da (e.g. return of books) when you submit your application. Once the application has been processed, the certificate of disenrollment will be available online at my.h-da.de. |
Reimbursement of the semester fee |
Reimbursement of the semester fee is only possible in certain cases. The reasons for reimbursement can be found in the application for reimbursement. Please note the deadlines for applying for a refund. If you de-register on the current date in a current semester, no refund will be made. |
Reimbursement of the semester ticket |
On the AStA website you can check whether you fulfil the requirements for a reimbursement of the semester ticket and submit an application if that is the case.

Graduation – usually automatic disenrollment
If you have successfully completed your studies, you will be automatically disenrolled to the end of the semester - unless you have re-registered for the following semester.
Please note the following:
- If, after completing your last academic achievement, all that is missing is the entry of your final grade and the issue of your certificate, it is not necessary to re-register for the following semester. In this case, the reason "missing re-registration" is stated in the certificate of disenrollment. The reason can be corrected after grades have been entered. Please contact us for a corresponding correction. Our contact details can be found on the right-hand side of this page.
- If you have re-registered for the coming semester as a precautionary measure because your examination grade has not yet been entered, you can retain your student status for the semester in question or apply for disenrollment and then apply for refund within the corresponding deadline. You can apply for disenrollment in the university portal my.h-da in the "Student Services" section.
- If you wish to apply for a Master's degree programme or a second degree programme, you will need to re-register for the coming semester.
Graduation documents
You can obtain your graduation documents from the Central Examination Office (see exception in the next section). As soon as the documents have been finalised, you will receive a notification to your student e-mail address.
Exception: Graduation documents for graduates of the EIT faculty
If you have completed your studies at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, you must submit an application for the issue of graduation documents to the Department's Examinations Office.
No enrolment required to receive the graduation documents
Your graduation documents will be issued even after you have exmatriculated and will be kept at the Central Examination Office until you collect them in person or request that they be sent by post.
Pausing your studies, dropping out, changing university - applying for disenrollment
If you would like to pause or discontinue your studies or continue them at another university, please submit an application for disenrollment on the university portal my.h-da.
Please note the following:
- Disenrollment is only possible at the end of a semester that has already begun or on the current date.
- Retroactive disenrollment is not possible.
- Your previous achievements remain valid.
- You can apply for a verified transcript of records and the certificate of no objection required for a change of university from the Central Examination Office at h_da.
- If you have already re-registered for the next semester, a refund is only possible if you have disenrolled before the start of the new semester or if you can provide proof of a change of university by the application deadline.
Disenrollment by official order - seek counselling services at an early stage
If you do not meet certain formal requirements, you will be formally withdrawn from h_da. However, before you are disenrolled, you will receive a reminder and a threat of disenrollment by official order in electronic form. The reminder may give you the opportunity to avoid disenrollment.
Reasons disenrollment by official order are
- The semester fee has not been paid on time at the time of re-registration.
If the semester fee could not be booked within the re-registration period, h_da assumes that you do not wish to continue your studies. After receiving the letter with the threat of disenrollment, you have the opportunity to object to the disenrollment by transferring the outstanding semester fee including the late payment fee within the specified period. Your disenrollment will then be cancelled. A written objection is not required. If the money has been received in full in the h_da account within this period, you will be re-registered for the coming semester. You can check this yourself via my.h-da.de. Once you have been properly re-registered, you will receive an e-mail to your student account. You can then validate your campuscard for the coming semester. - The confirmation of membership from the health insurance company or proof of exemption from statutory health insurance is missing at the time of re-registration.
After receiving the letter threatening disenrollment, you have one month to submit the confirmation notification from your health insurance company, which proves that the late payment has been clarified with the health insurance company and the insurance status has thus been reconfirmed. - A study or examination achievement required for the continuation of the degree programme has definitively not been completed.
The student is disenrolled. If one or more examinations have been definitively failed, the same degree programme can no longer be studied. In this case, you will receive notification of your disenrollment with all important information from the Central Examination Office.
- The required documents for provisional enrolment have not been submitted on time.
- You have not completed any coursework for more than two years.
However, disenrollment is always preceded by an invitation to an interview with representatives of your degree programme in which you can explain why you have not completed any coursework. You will also be given the opportunity to explain that you are motivated to successfully complete your degree programme. In principle, h_da has an interest in discharging you from h_da with a degree. If you are nevertheless disenrolled, you will not be barred from the same degree programme and you will not lose your right to take examinations as a result of disenrollment. You can reapply to the h_da or another university. - Enrolment due to an incorrect letter of admission.
You have been enrolled due to an incorrect letter of admission and the cancellation of the letter of admission has become incontestable or is immediately enforceable.
Please note the following:
- Always keep your data up to date! The disenrollment by official order takes place at the end of a semester after the notification of imminent disenrollment has been sent by h_da. Regularly check your student status and any notifications on my.h-da as well as your student e-mail address. Also keep your contact details up to date.
- Be sure to observe deadlines! Remember to re-register for each semester on time and to transfer the semester fee on time!
- Make use of personal counselling! In the event of imminent disenrollment, we recommend that you attend an individual counselling session at the Central Student Advisory Service. You can book a counselling appointment conveniently online.
