Business Psychology (Master's degree)

Should growth issues or a crisis prompt a company to reorganize itself, the effects will be apparent not only in a business-economic sense, but also across the structure of the entire organisation, including amongst its staff – and thus in psychological terms as well. This calls for experts with a critical, integrated view, who are able to apply strategic insights at the correct interfaces, to ensure the company’s new trajectory succeeds. An interdisciplinary Business Psychology Master’s degree course combines insights from psychology with business sciences issues. It conveys in-depth scientific and practice-oriented skills and knowledge of the concepts, methods and techniques employed within business psychology. Graduates are thus qualified to fulfil managerial tasks, responsible functions within economics organisations, within the economy or at research facilities. - Focal point ‘work, personnel and organisational psychology’: career prospects are available in managing personnel departments, in organisational development, or personnel service providers.
- Focal point ‘market-based, consumer-oriented or media psychology’: career prospects are available in domestic or international marketing, in media management, in market and trend research as well as in business consulting.
- Focal point ‘environmental psychology and sustainability’: for instance, career prospects include work in research and development facilities, in environmental communication areas, as well as in the fields of corporate social responsibility and sustainability management.
After a Master's degree, there is the possibility of a doctorate. The central contact point is the Graduate School.
From the outset, students begin to specialise in two of the three focus areas outlined above. Additional focal points of the course convey economic, management and research skills, along with competencies in business-psychological consulting. Modules on societal development, inter-culturalism and languages are also part and parcel of an overall, interdisciplinary qualification. The eighth semester is devoted to students consolidating their fundamental knowledge of psychology, and applying themselves to a practical or research project – which may also be successfully concluded overseas. The Business Psychology Master’s degree course (M. Sc.) is limited admission (n.c.). Admission prerequisites include a Bachelor’s or Diploma degree graduation, or an equivalent initial qualification to enter a profession, in the fields of business psychology or psychology. Furthermore, proof of attendance is required for core modules of preliminary studies courses (see module overview under ‘Structure’).
