Leave of absence
Leave of absence for students is possible if there are important reasons. The legal basis for a leave of absence from studies is the matriculation statutes of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, which you can find under the following link under “Further statutes”. h-da.de/hhg
Possible reasons for the leave of absence:
- An illness that precludes proper study for the semester applied for. This presupposes that the illness extends over a period of at least six weeks,
- study-related internships that are not part of the degree program,
- a study-related stay abroad,
- maternity leave and parental leave,
- Caring for relatives,
- Interruption of studies for the purpose of financing studies, own entrepreneurial activity, such as starting a business or in part-time study programs due to unexpected extraordinary professional burdens,
- If only the colloquium is missing for graduation,
- Other reasons:
- Membership of a squad of a top professional association in the Olympic Sports Confederation,
- Participation as an appointed or elected representative in academic or student self-administration,
- Performing voluntary or military service.
Duration of the leave of absence
Leave of absence is only possible for full semesters and, with the exception of cases of illness, maternity leave and caring for relatives, for a maximum of six semesters.
Apply for leave of absence
- You can apply for a leave of absence online at my.h-da.de in the "Student Services" section within the re-registration period for the relevant semester.
- If you are unable to continue your studies during the semester due to a sudden/unexpected event, it is also possible to apply for a leave of absence during the semester. Please note that the application must be submitted immediately after the reason for the leave of absence has occurred.
- Dual students must first contact the Dual Study Centre.
Semester contribution and possible reimbursement of the RMV contribution
Students on leave of absence must also pay the semester fees for the respective semester on time. The AStA of the h_da decides on the possibility of reimbursement of the RMV contribution during the leave of absence.
Performance records and examinations during the leave of absence
- It is only possible to obtain certificates of achievement (enrolment) or to take examinations if you are on leave of absence due to maternity leave or are a member of university bodies.
- It is possible for all students to retake failed examinations.
