Part-time study

Students in the standard period of study can apply for part-time study if there are important reasons and they can provide evidence. The legal basis for part-time studies is the enrollment statutes of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, which you can find under the following link under “Further statutes”. https://h-da.de/hhg

Possible reasons for studying part-time

  • An illness that precludes proper study for the semester applied for. This presupposes that the illness extends over a period of at least six weeks,
  • Maternity leave and parental leave,
  • Caring for relatives,
  • interruption of studies for the purpose of financing studies, own entrepreneurial activity, such as starting a business or in part-time study programmes due to unexpected extraordinary professional burdens,
  • If only the colloquium is missing for graduation,
  • Other reasons:
    • Membership of a squad of a top professional association in the Olympic Sports Confederation,
    • Participation as an appointed or elected representative in academic or student self-administration,
    • Performing voluntary or military service.

Regulations for part-time study programmes

  • A part-time degree programme can only be taken up in each semester within the standard period of study and continued several times, but only up to a maximum of twice the standard period of study.
  • It is not possible to take up a part-time degree programme retroactively.
  • Part-time study is not possible on degree programmes with restricted admission (NC).
  • In part-time study programmes, semesters count as half semesters or full university semesters.
  • As a rule, half of the credit points (CP) or credits can be earned that are required for full-time study according to the examination regulations (PO) of the respective degree programme.
  • Completion times for final theses are doubled accordingly.
  • If more than half of the planned CPs or credits are achieved in a part-time semester, the semester is counted as a full semester.
