Voluntary Service in Bali with Kolping

Bali off the beaten track

Although Bali is primarily known in this country as a paradisiacal holiday destination, a different picture of the island can often be seen off the beaten tourist track. Here, development is nowhere near as advanced and many people live in poverty. Our project partner is the Christian Widhya Asih Foundation, which runs seven orphanages on Bali and looks after a total of more than 400 children and young people there. The aim is to give the children a varied everyday life and a better standard of living with opportunities for the future through dedicated care.

For the first three weeks, we will be living together with the children and project partners of the orphanages on the premises of the Widhya Asih Foundation in Blimbinsari. In addition to keeping the children actively occupied, we will support the staff with any work that needs to be done (e.g. painting, renovating, field work). Visits to school and playful tutoring sessions, e.g. in English, are also possible activities that the children enjoy.

Bali is a Hindu-dominated island in an Islamic state. Religion and tradition play a major role, which is why open-mindedness and tolerance are very important. In our free time, we can visit the famous Tanah Lot water temple, beaches, rice terraces, Balinese dances and the artists' town of Ubud. The fourth week is free for us to discover other parts of the island together and at our own expense.
