Content
Decisions with far-reaching consequences are made every day in business and society. Computer scientists introduce innovations such as AI-based software, business economists reorganise working hours, engineers optimise production processes and products. However, these decisions are often made without sufficiently involving people. As a result, software is not used, working hours contradict the needs of employees and customers are dissatisfied with new products. This is precisely where the Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Social Sciences (B.A.) comes in. We put people at the centre of decisions in companies, organisations and administration. Perspective
Almost all changes in our working and living environment, in the workplace and in society have a social science aspect. People decide, learn and act and are therefore affected by change. The list of topics and questions is long:
- What can sustainable living and working look like?
- How do we manage digitalisation?
- How do we deal with social (in)equality?
Applied social scientists are in demand wherever an interdisciplinary perspective with a focus "on people" makes sense - be it in organisations in the private or public sector in the field of human resources or organisational development, in marketing or change management, but also in the field of development cooperation or sustainable development.
Structure
The degree programme is based on the motto "Practically unbeatable!". Whenever possible, real examples from practice are analysed. This application-orientated view of decisions, change and innovations in society and working life is the starting point for the courses and lectures. Right at the beginning of the degree programme, the first projects are worked on in working groups in collaboration with practice partners. Introductory lectures, exercises and seminars provide the skills needed to successfully complete the project. In a further project in the 4th and 5th semesters, knowledge is deepened and valuable practical and project experience is gained for future working life. The degree programme is structured in such a way that a semester abroad is planned. An internship and the Bachelor's thesis in the final semester round off the programme. Access
The study programme Applied Social Sciences (B.A.) is not admission restricted (no NC). In addition to English language skills, the following school-leaving qualifications are required for admission:
- General higher education entrance qualification
- Subject-related higher education entrance qualification valid in Hesse
- University of Applied Sciences entrance qualification valid in Hessen
Applicants should have a good knowledge of English. Prospective students who have already taken up studies at another university must apply with a motivation letter. A detailed description of the admission requirements can be found in the Special Provisions of the Examination Regulations (German).
