Applied Computer Science

Digitalisation and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are shaping all areas of our lives. They present us as a society with numerous challenges, but at the same time offer opportunities that seemed unimaginable just a few decades ago. We take this into account with our research focus on applied computer science.

Cyber security is of outstanding importance here. Researchers at h_da are developing innovative, application-orientated solutions in this extremely dynamic field - examples include post-quantum cryptography, biometric technologies and IT security for vehicles. Our excellent research work has been recognised by several DFG grants.

We have a similar level of expertise in the multifaceted field of artificial intelligence (AI) - including approaches that use AI to promote cyber security. Our AI research focuses on people: when we investigate the social and psychological dimensions of digital media or programme algorithms that recognise hate speech or fake news on the internet.
