Communication and media

Communication, Media and Societal Transformation

Media and communication characterise how social change is perceived, negotiated and shaped. The research focus examines these processes in the field of tension between digitalisation and sustainable transformation - analytically, creatively and also artistically and experimentally.

Interdisciplinary teams from communication, media, social, cultural and economic sciences research how individuals, organisations and society deal with changing media conditions.

  • At an individual level, the focus is on media skills, digital participation, media aesthetics, media experience and questions of learning and resilience.
  • At an organisational level, journalistic and media formats, strategic communication, digital innovations and sustainability communication will be examined - in companies, media houses, institutions and civil society.
  • At a societal level, the focus is on the framework conditions of public communication, the democratic public sphere, security and disinformation, platform logics and the cultural and ethical consequences of new technologies.
