We have put together a programme for you to discover your potential and talents and immerse yourself in the world of science and technology. Find out here what exciting topics and activities await you.
In the first few days, you will get to know Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and each other as a hejmint group. Getting started is easier if you familiarise yourself with the new place and have companions, so your hejmint journey begins with team-building and campus tours. :)
In addition to knowledge about professions, a personalised career choice requires clarity about your own potential, interests, wishes and expectations. So that you can better assess whether the degree programmes and apprenticeships that you get to know during your hejmint semester suit you, you will first get to know yourself better with simple group coaching exercises . :)
The path to a STEM profession can also take the form of vocational training. During a two-week stay at the Vocational Training and Technology Centre (BTZ) of the Rhine-Main Chamber of Crafts in Weiterstadt, you will get to know various trades in exciting practical projects. The projects take you through the various workshops at the BTZ, where you can get hands-on.
Mathematics plays a central role in all STEM degree programmes as well as physics in engineering degree programmes. To make it easier for you to start your studies, you have the opportunity to refresh your knowledge of maths and physics in the corresponding preliminary courses at the university. This way, you can be sure that you have the level of knowledge that will be required later on in your degree programme and apprenticeship.
During the lecture period, you will attend various courses at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences like a regular student. Your timetable consists of a compulsory section with four hejmint-specific courses and a compulsory elective section , which you can organise according to your own specialist interests.
This course brings together everything you need for your individual career choice.
➜ Excursions to businesses and companies will familiarise you with different areas of work and occupational fields.
➜ Discussions with experts, training ambassadors and students will give you personal insights into training, studies and careers.
➜ We support you in your individual decision-making process with accompanying individual and group coaching sessions .
In "Fit for Studies", you will prepare for a smooth entry into a STEM subject. From the basics of scientific work in STEM subjects, to future skills in the areas of communication, self-management and learning management, to university etiquette, you will learn everything you need to start your studies or training programme with confidence.
The hejmint practical project is the centrepiece of your orientation semester.
Each participant selects two projects from a total of five different practical projects on the topic of "Mobility of the Future", in which they work together in small teams on application-related topics (e.g. urban cable car, autonomous driving) throughout the semester.
In the compulsory elective area, you can select and take regular courses from the STEM degree programmes according to your individual interests and needs. The examinations you take in these subjects can be recognised for your future studies.
You will soon find an overview of the courses offered in the compulsory elective area here.
The lecture-free period begins after the end of the courses. At hejmint, this consists of the examination phase and the industrial placement.
The lecture-free period begins with the examination phase, during which examinations can be taken for the subjects that were previously attended. You decide for yourself whether and in which subjects you would like to take examinations. Examinations taken can be recognised for later studies.
After the exams, you have the opportunity to complete an industrial internship in one of our partner companies or in another company of your choice. You can have this internship recognised as a pre-study internship for a later degree course. If you decide in favour of vocational training or a dual study programme, you can use the internship to get to know potential training companies or cooperating companies.
You will find an overview of our partner companies here shortly.
Rosanna Jering will be your personal contact throughout the semester. In addition, two student mentors will help you find your way around the new university universe.
