Information Law (Bachelor of Laws)

Influencer marketing, AI chatbots, deepfakes, cybercrime and online marketplaces: the six-semester Information Law degree programme examines the legal framework underpinning the digital world at an advanced academic level. 

During your studies, you will tackle key legal issues relating to digitalisation in a practical context: Is it permissible to edit music into a social media post and to train applications using intellectual content? You will also draft software contracts and assess liability issues relating to AI systems. Trademark law, data protection and the right to privacy are also covered in the programme. The curriculum places a particular emphasis on European and Anglo-American law.

You will work in teams, develop argumentation strategies for contract negotiations and present the results. The programme also prepares you to support digital transformation processes with technical and economic implications outside the courtroom and to shape them responsibly. It is these specialised and interdisciplinary skills that distinguish information lawyers from traditional fully qualified lawyers. The AI Officer and Data Protection certificates further enhance your excellent prospects in the job market.

As an information lawyer, you will have a wide range of career opportunities in companies, particularly within the digital and media sectors, as well as in law firms:

• Film production, television, (music) publishing houses, software companies, AI providers, the music industry, online shops and auction houses, social media platforms
• Data Protection and AI Officer
• Contract manager (e.g. drafting software and licence agreements)
• Trademark manager
• Open source compliance manager

The degree programme is not admission restricted (no NC). The following degrees, among others, are valid as admission prerequisites:

• General higher education entrance qualification
• Subject-related higher education entrance qualification valid in Hesse
• University of Applied Sciences entrance qualification valid in Hessen

Enrolment requires proof of English language skills at level B1. This can be proven either by the Abitur or Fachabitur certificate. Alternatively, various language certificates are recognised.
