Society is in the midst of a socio-ecological and digital transformation. Technology and society must go hand in hand so that people can utilise the often technology-driven changes to their benefit. This requires experts who can mediate between different perspectives: For example, when introducing new technologies in a company or building new wind farms. In the Master's degree course in Applied Social Sciences, which is both academic and strongly practice- and application-oriented, students work on real-life cases in close cooperation with companies and organisations. There are two specialisations to choose from:
Graduates of the Applied Social Sciences degree programme are able to confidently mediate and coordinate between different interests in a complex working and social environment. With their interdisciplinary perspective, they recognise key opportunities and challenges. They work for companies, non-profit organisations or institutions in the public sector in a wide variety of areas and can also take on management positions:
After completing a Master's programme, there is the possibility of a doctorate. The Graduate School is the central point of contact.
A detailed description of the programme content can be found in the module manual (German).
Admission requirement is a relevant and qualified Bachelor's or Diplom degree with at least 180 CP in the field of social sciences (overall grade of 2.5 or better). The degree is considered relevant if core modules in the social sciences (basic and applied subjects, empirical methods) totalling 75 CP have been completed. If the requirements are not met, an aptitude test may allow admission with conditions. A detailed description of the admission requirements can be found in the Special Provisions of the Examination Regulations (BBPO) (German).
