The efficient and careful use of resources is becoming increasingly important. The aim is to reuse raw materials as often as possible, thus keeping them in the material cycle for a long time and finally to use their energetic potential, e.g. through combustion or fermentation. Environmental engineers take this into account when planning, constructing and operating recycling, biogas or sewage treatment plants and other environmental engineering facilities; however, the overall requirements are becoming increasingly complex. In the Master's programme in Environmental Engineering, students deepen their specialist knowledge and acquire comprehensive skills for taking on demanding management, research, development and design tasks in environmental engineering. They pay particular attention to the increasingly important aspects of plant safety and occupational health and safety in the planning, construction and operation of environmental engineering plants, supplemented by specialist knowledge of environmental law and business management aspects and environmental and sustainability assessment. The Master's programme in Environmental Engineering has a modular structure so that students can quickly specialise. A large proportion of the students have practical phases with real projects as in their later professional life. The knowledge is deepened in seminars, lectures, exercises and laboratories. Interdisciplinary modules broaden the view for social dimensions of the profession. In the final semester, the Master's thesis is written. The admission requirement is a qualified Bachelor's or Diploma degree with an overall grade of 2.5 or better in the field of environmental engineering. Students with a Bachelor's degree of 180 CP must earn an additional 30 CP to reach the 300 CP required for the Master's degree in Environmental Engineering. Students with a bachelor's degree without a practical module, which includes a practical phase of at least 12 weeks, must complete a corresponding module.
