Society and economy are increasingly mobile, networked and sustainably oriented. The basis for this are buildings planned by civil engineers. Civil engineers also make a significant contribution to the supply of clean water and the creation of a healthy environment. They are pioneers in securing energy supplies and implementing climate protection measures. Autonomous driving and strategic traffic planning are just as forward-looking topics in civil engineering as environmentally conscious, sustainable and age-appropriate buildings. In the 7-semester bachelor's degree course in civil engineering at h_da, students get to know the entire spectrum of a professional field with a lot of potential in a practical and application-oriented way, which is interdisciplinary from construction to office and has a significant influence on society and economy. You can find more detailed information on the course of studies at the website of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The career prospects are correspondingly promising. Civil engineers work on a national and international level in the following areas:
Based on the Bachelor degree, the following Master programmes are possible:
After learning general and subject-specific basics of civil engineering in the first semesters, students set their own priorities. They choose from four areas that already prepare them for future professional fields in a national and international environment: Construction industry, structural engineering and geotechnics, transport as well as water management and environmental technology. Interdisciplinary qualifications are an important part of the course of study, for example in order to be able to assess the effects of one's own work on society. This can be followed by a Master's degree course, which also qualifies students for a doctorate (see chart on the right). You can find a detailed presentation of the course contents in the module manual (German).
The course of study Civil Engineering (B.Eng.) is not admission restricted. Proof of an internship is required; detailed information is available on the faculty's website (German). Admission requirements include these school-leaving certificates:
A detailed description of the admission requirements can be found in the Special Provisions of the Examination Regulations (German).
