Social Work Plus - Migration and Globalisation
|Standard period of study||8 Semester|
|With admission restriction.|
The degree programme qualifies students for social work in a globalised world. Many people with a migration background live in Germany and are often affected by social exclusion. The teaching of intercultural competences as well as international study and internship experiences enable students to work with migrants and refugees. Students are given the opportunity to gain an insight into global politics and international contexts and also to qualify for activities in international organisations. You can find more detailed information on the degree programme on the website of the Faculty of Social Work.
After completing the degree, there are a variety of employment opportunities, especially in social services and institutions with a focus on migration and asylum, as well as in corporate social work. With a view to the European and global market, there is employment potential in non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or in international voluntary work. An international professional career is possible.
Building on the Bachelor's degree, the following Master's programmes are possible:
The degree programme consists of eight semesters. In the first two years of study, theoretical and methodological knowledge as well as social and communicative skills are taught, partly in English-language courses and by teachers from abroad. Internships are completed in fields of work that deal with migration, asylum or internationality. In the third year, students go abroad for an internship semester and a study semester. So far, the programme has cooperated with universities in Turkey, Ghana, Brazil, Paraguay, Jordan and Ukraine. The year abroad enables students to deal with social problems and how to overcome them in other countries. The experiences are reflected upon and processed in the seventh semester. A detailed description of the study contents can be found in the module manual (German).
