Computer Science (Bachelor's degree)
|Standard period of study||6 Semester|
|winter semester/ summer semester|
|Without admission restriction.|
Global networking via the Internet, huge music databases and the control of mobile phones are just a few examples of the influence of information technology. The degree programme in Computer Science with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) enables students to participate in the creative and independent solution of problems in information technology in almost all areas of application. In six semesters, they learn solid technical and methodological fundamentals of computer science as well as their application and implementation in industry and business. These skills are the basis for success throughout your professional life. The programme is offered by the Department of Computer Science, one of the largest and most recommended computer science departments at German universities of applied sciences. This is shown, for example, by the top positions in the relevant university rankings. More detailed information on the degree programme can be found at the website of the Faculty of Computer Science.
Computer scientists work mainly in companies that develop, produce, distribute and use complex information systems.
Fields of work:
- Software development/design, testing and maintenance
- System consulting and training
- Development, support of databases and networks
- Reliability and security of software and hardware.
Building on the Bachelor's degree, the following Master's programmes are possible:
The modules of the Bachelor's programme in Computer Science include courses, project work and practical phases. Almost all modules include an internship with a maximum of 16 students, which is usually supervised by professors themselves. A detailed presentation of the course contents can be found in the module manual (German). The Bachelor's degree qualifies students for a profession, but also enables them to transfer to Master's programmes (see chart).
The programme is not admissions restricted (no NC), but proof of completion of an online self-assessment for enrolment must be provided. You can find further information at www.fbi.h-da.de/osa.
Among other things, these school-leaving qualifications are regarded as admission requirements:
- General qualification for university entrance
- Subject-related higher education entrance qualification valid in Hessen
- Advanced technical college entrance qualification valid in Hessen.
Various competences and skills are required for a successful study of computer science. These include:
- Mathematical-logical and abstract thinking
- Independent, careful and result-oriented work
- Frustration Tolerance
- Team spirit
- Good command of English.
A detailed description of the admission requirements can be found in the Special Provisions of the Examination Regulations (German).
