Content

Whether games or medicine, school, industry or science: virtual reality and expanded realities in general are about to break into almost every area of life. They will soon become part of everyday life just like the smartphone today. Students are helping to shape this future in the international bachelor’s program Augmented and Virtual Reality Design. They conceive, design and develop new worlds and applications and contribute to a completely new media language. They master the technological aspects of virtual, augmented or mixed reality as well as the creative and conceptual production of content and develop an understanding of the ethical and social dimensions of this new medium. Additional information on the study program can be found on the Website of the Augmented and Virtual Reality Design degree programme.

Perspective

The prospects are diverse and promising as more and more industries are working with Expanded Realities, including media and entertainment, but also industry and academia. Typical professions and work areas are:

  • Software design and implementation of applications in the field of augmented reality
  • Conception and development of technologies and applications in the field of XR
  • Interaction and experience design, as well as 3D worldbuilding & XR storytelling
  • Marketing of relevant media products

Building on the Bachelor's degree, the following Master's programmes are possible:

International Media Cultural Work - Master of Arts
Expanded Media - Master of Arts
Animation and Game Direction - Master of Arts

 

Structure

Essential technical, creative and scientific basics are taught in the first two semesters. From the third semester onwards, the practical workshops take up a central role. Here, students work in teams on increasingly complex practical projects with high-tech equipment, as they will be doing later in their professional lives. The practical phase in the fifth semester is spent in the company, followed by another workshop workshop is followed by a research project and the Bachelor thesis in the seventh semester. Access

The prerequisite for the bachelor’s program Augmented and Virtual Reality Design is an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences. Applicants should also have a good command of English as the language of instruction is English. The selection process consists of a two-stage artistic and creative aptitude test, during which a digital portfolio consisting of three work samples must first be submitted. If successful, this is followed by tasks and an interview. These qualifications are among the admission requirements:

  • General higher education entrance qualification
  • Subject-specific higher education entrance qualification valid in Hesse
  • Entrance qualification for applied science universities valid in Hesse
