On November 1, 2017, the Doctoral Center Applied Computer Science was approved. The center is a joint scientific institution of the four Hessian Universities of Applied Sciences (HAW) Hochschule Darmstadt, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Hochschule Fulda and Hochschule RheinMain. The universities thus have the initially limited independent right to award doctoral degrees in the field of Applied Computer Science in accordance with §4 para. 3 S 3 HHG in conjunction with the prerequisites and framework conditions for the granting of a right to award doctoral degrees at universities of applied sciences.
In the doctoral center, the focus is on applied computer science as an interface between basic research and practical application. In addition to questions from computer science, this also includes the application of scientific methods of computer science to existing and new problems from all social, technical and economic areas as well as research on fundamental challenges of computer science and their interplay with later applications and application subjects.
