Good scientific practice (GSP) is a buzzword that has found its way into the general discourse as a result of plagiarism scandals. The basis of all research is research data, which can be analysed to gain new scientific insights. Careful handling of this data is a prerequisite for responsible research and therefore a central component of the GWP.
Digitalisation is creating new challenges and opportunities in the handling of research data, which will be presented in this practical lecture - true to the title "Transparency in the data jungle".
The event is aimed primarily at doctoral students at universities of applied sciences (HAW), but is open to anyone interested in dealing with research data in the digital age.
The topics covered include what research data is, what life cycle it goes through and how it differs between different disciplines. The central principles of the GWP are presented and it is explained how research data management (RDM) contributes to their compliance.
For doctoral candidates and interested parties, the requirements of universities and doctoral centres with regard to RDM are discussed and practical recommendations regarding technical implementation through metadata and file formats are given as well as tools and offers are presented. Data management plans (DMP) and questions on data protection and ethics in dealing with research data will also be addressed.
